If you’re in Malaysia and suddenly feel hungry in your hotel room, keep calm. I knew that you are too lazy to leave the room, just for food! You just spent the whole day walking around, and now you’re too tired!
Chill, you don’t have to walk out and hunt for food. Locals here like me have been relying on food delivery apps for quite some time.
If you search on the AppStore, there’s a lot of food delivery app in Malaysia. There’s a lot of color too. You name it: green, blue, yellow, red. But I am going to suggest you the most famous and my personal favourite, the pink one. It is called as ‘Food Panda’.
The name itself is logical
‘Food’ is obvious, that’s what you want. And there goes the ‘Panda’, and that’s you. You are the panda, who is the most tired person on earth and need food to come to you. You’re not going to move, exactly like a real panda.
How does Food Panda work?
Of course it is easy. You open the app, browse through the nearby restaurants and you choose one. Pink your food and make payment. A rider will pick up your food from the restaurant and deliver it straight to your hotel lobby. Or sometimes directly to your hotel room (if the hotel policy allow them to do so).
What kind of food can you get
Everything. You can get local Malaysian food like nasi lemak, fried rice, satay, roti canai. But not to worry, I know your taste bud is not like us the locals here.
Some day you need something you familiar with, like a burger? You will find a more international options like McDonalds, KFC and some other internationally known fast food brands.
Oh yea, even some small roadside stalls that you did not expect them to be online, they’re on FoodPanda too! That is how famous these app is used here.
How easy to sign up? Do you need ID or something?
Nope, you can just sign up an account using your Gmail account. I believe you do have one, right? Just like the screenshot below.

The registration is as easy as you can imagine. One click and you’re good to go. If the app asks you to key in your phone number, just skip it. Or you want, just insert your phone number and it’s done.
How to pay for these food?
Have you read the article I wrote about the app that locals in Malaysia uses a lot? The one that is called as the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet app? Yes, you can use it in the Food Panda app.
Read >> Paying for food in Malaysia using QR Pay. What is that?
But if you want to pay using cash or your credit card, it’s up to you. I’m just suggesting you the way I would do it.

Delivery is fast, and the price is affordable
From my personal experience, you can get your food in about 20 to 40 minutes. Sometimes even faster if the restaurant is really nearby your hotel (or Airbnb) location.
Delivery fees are actually are good to hear, as low as a few Ringgits (1 Malaysian Ringgit equals to 0.25 USD). Cheap? Yes, it is.
